THE PERFECT RED LIP DUO

Red lipstick is the best, right? I think we can all agree on that. Wearing a red lip instantly boosts your mood and makes you powerful and indestructible. But getting it to look just right can be a little bit tricky. I think I may have cracked it though...

What do we want from a red lip look? It needs to look smooth, not patchy or flaky, perfectly on the lip line and not smeared all over your face (and teeth).
Enter this little duo...

Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner '024 Red Diva' | Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick 'Hot Pepper'

I've owned this lip liner from Rimmel for so long and i have no idea why I haven't ever gone back for all the colours. Rather than a pencil liner, this is more like a crayon and it lines and fills in the lips perfectly. It's not scratchy like you can sometimes get with a pencil and the waxy-ness really gives the lipstick something to cling to. They're cheap as chips too at £3.99!
A new purchase I've made lately is one of the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets. I got the shade Hot Pepper and these are incredible. The whole liquid lipstick/lip lacquer trend really took off last year and Bourjois seem to have made the perfect one. This little guy lasts FOREVER. Even without the liner, you get a really decent few hours out of it and it still looks great.
They cost £8.99 and they are matte but not drying at all so you won't get that flaky look.
I decided to randomly team them together for a more bold look and oh boy..! Bold is what I got. And it lasted all day without me topping up!
On THIS post from last weekend, the second photo I am wearing this duo and the photo was taken after being out for 6 hours and scoffing the worlds biggest brownie and a teapot full of tea (fancy that...).

I trialled it out again this week in case it wasn't a fluke. After 5 hours wear time which included copious amount of tea (I work in an office and so I'm always on the never ending brew cycle.) and my lunch and the only bit of wear was towards the centre of my lips. And to be honest, I could have gotten away with leaving it without a top up.
Super impressed and definitely need more of these Rouge Edition Velvets.

The main things to remember to get the most of of a good bold lip is to make sure your lips are in tip top condition. Exfoliate them! I use a lip scrub from Lush once or twice a week, then every night I use a thick lip balm (the Nuxe Reve de Miel) and every morning I use a normal lip balm (usually The Body's Shop's Vitamin E Balm) and let that sink in whilst I apply my makeup.
